Next week...
Next week at this time.....our family of 3 will be leaving Bonson's-the famous Pick'N Save that we shop at Up North prior to pulling into the long, gravel drive way to my favorite place on Earth. Our small family of 3 will turn into a big, mixed-aged family from baby Sydney to Grandma Barb.
The excitement is brewing. Eli knows (as much as he can know) he is soon going to the Cottage.
The plans are in motion. The e-mails are flying back and forth. Lists are being made. Fights between Andy and I are stewing about how much to bring and how to pack the car.
All of these things are just part of the trip. Part of the build up.
But before we can get there-we have to work 5 more days. We have to wish my sister a happy birthday and her and Ed a happy anniversary. we have to get our acts together packing and squeezing and closing up the house. We have to survive a long car ride. And then the first few hours are always a little crazy as the kids just want to do it all, the mom's want to unpack and get settled and the dad's don't know what to do. Cracking a cold beer is what Grandma Barb will do. We'll figure out sleeping arrangements and unpack the coolers.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

2
Dear World,
It's Eli's mom. Hi. Eli is too busy to stop and tell you but he's officially two years old. I can't believe it. It's scary, exciting, thrilling, difficult and joyful. Eli has really developed into a little man. He is getting too smart for his britches, which is both a good thing and a devastating thing. When he says something new my heart swells and drops. I just don't want him growing up, driving a car, going to prom and moving out. I'm not ready for that.
Weight: 23.4 lbs (<5th%)
Head:47.5 cm (almost 25th%)
His weight for length chart is moving away from the 5th%, meaning it looks like he is getting skinnier, but really he is just getting longer and not fatter. But he is growing and on an "Eli" curve which the doctor always says "He's never going to be a monster".
I'm proud of my lil peanut man.
We celebrated with both grandparents. We had a soccer ball cake and he got a lot of fun new presents. Eli glowed when we sang to him, as if he knew all about it.
In more Eli news:
-Eli can count to 10. He can do it slow and fast. He usually says 2 after 8, instead of 9.
-Eli knows all his colors. I love this. But he calls yellow "lemow" -part lemon and part yellow.
-Favorite foods: CHIPS! budgies (all berries), cheese, pickles, tomatoes and yogurt
-He is getting bossy: "Bee-ya Come!" "I want it" "I want some!" "no you do it" etc
-He sings Twinkle Twinkle (Tinkle Tinkle Star)
-Not interested in potty training at all
-Eli is all done with his nuk! and it was an easy transition
-Eli always wants to pick his books before bed time. He especially likes the Curious George Flap Book, he likes to be involved-if a book has something to touch-he loves it. He is not happy if I want to change things up.
-He loves to romp on the floor with daddy and this is a nightly routine. Right before bed time of course.
-He still loves trucks and trains. He has names for them all: mixers, diggers, mail, water, big trucks etc
-Eli's bedtime is a little later now a days and he takes 1 good nap each day.
-Enjoys art: colors, markers, stickers, play dough etc
-Eli has lots of friends-at day care and mom's friends kids. He also knows his grandparents, aunts and uncles and almost all his cousins.
-Eli is like his daddy-he's a people person. He'll go play with anyone, smile and say hi to everyone and doesn't like to be quiet. (He's also a dancer).
Eli my boy....you are a joy to me. I can't imagine or even remember what life was like without you. There was nothing keeping me going back then. You tire me out, but that is because I am so busy loving, watching and laughing with you. I hope that I can remember the moments. As I get older I feel as if I've forgotten moments I had with high school and college friends-but you & me moments-I hope to never, ever forget.
Hope your 2nd year of life is full of love, smiles, laughs, lessons and curiosity!
I love you.
Love,

Ok I know it's just knowing his colors and numbers but still. It's a blow to my heart.
But 2 is a great number.
We saw Dr. B and got a good report. Eli didn't have to get any shots and he was calm while Dr. B checked him out. Below are his stats:
Length/height: 35 inches (50-75th%)Weight: 23.4 lbs (<5th%)
Head:47.5 cm (almost 25th%)
His weight for length chart is moving away from the 5th%, meaning it looks like he is getting skinnier, but really he is just getting longer and not fatter. But he is growing and on an "Eli" curve which the doctor always says "He's never going to be a monster".

Brand New Day
I'm trying to get myself geared up for a brand new MON-day tomorrow.
So hard for me. The first song on my blog is pretty cool (lyrics and video below).
The countdown to my favorite week of the year, my much need vacation, my get away, my relaxation day after day, has officially started.
My sister reminded me not to rush the next 2 weeks away. I looked at her-how silly. These are the 2 weeks that I need to rush by.
Some kind of magic
Happens late at night
When the moon smiles down at me
And bathes me in its light
I fell asleep beneath you
In the tall blades of grass
When I woke the world was new
I never had to ask
It's a brand new day
The sun is shining
It's a brand new day
For the first time in such a long long time
I know, I'll be ok
Most kind of stories
Save the best part for last
And most stories have a hero who finds
You make your past your past
Yeah you make your past your past
It's a brand new day
The sun is shining
It's a brand new day
For the first time in such a long long time
I know, I'll be ok
This cycle never ends
You gotta fall in order to mend
It's a brand new day
It's a brand new day
For the first time in such a long long time
I know, I'll be ok

Dove's Message To Me
Today at work I decided to indulge in a piece of chocolate I had sitting on my desk.
It was dark chocolate and I don't like that much but I indulged anyways.
It was one of those Dove ones, where they have a "fortune" written on the inside of the wrapper.
Kara and Dena (officemates) and I like to open them together and read them. We hang some of them up.
One of mine said "It's OK to be fabulous AND flawed". Just like that. With a capitol AND.
While I was opening mine, I thought about the upcoming weekend and how I'm flying solo like my sister, Sarah (but with only 1 hahaha!) and like my friend Jessica who does it every night after working full time. Since I don't do it often, and I'm not usually with him by myself at night all week, I'm not used to it. I need to be patient and kind with him and mostly I need to be ON the floor with him, playing and watching him learn etc.
While I opened it, I just KNEW it was going to tell me something particular about this weekend. It was going to tell me to smile over the little things, or to enjoy the moments you can't get back etc etc. I asked Dove to please send me a message about patients, love or quality family time. I had to laugh OUT loud when I opened it and read "Take a moment for yourself". Hahahaha. How does THAT help when I'm going into a weekend of 1:1 action with my lil tot?

Good one...
“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely with too high a spirt to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” ~Emerson
